Over the past few weeks we have been part of the'Get NZ Writing 'poetry project. This project aimed to get 96,000 poems written across NZ! We were sent a tin with objects in it and we used one of these objects to write poems.Here is my poem

The Whrenui

A wharenui represent an important ancestor it’s like a book. On top of the
wharenui is a koruru/head. On the back of the wharenui is some pictures of
people that have passed away that were important. Head/ koruru is a carved
head. The marae is a carved place.The marae is like a history book. On the
side of the marae are the are the arms. The arms are called raparapa. There
are the hands which are called the raparapa. Inside there is the heart. The
heart is called poutokomanawa. There are ribs inside the marae. They are
called heke.
